Your Rovos Durban Safari begins at the grand Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria, where the train’s polished wood carriages and vintage charm instantly transport you to a bygone era of travel. Itinerary

Day 1PRETORIA TO MAJUBA HILL

Your journey begins at 10:00 am from the private Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria. As the train rolls southeast, take in sweeping views of the Highveld and Witwatersrand goldfields before passing through the historic towns of Heidelberg and Balfour. Enjoy a sumptuous lunch while the Drakensberg Mountains loom into view, their jagged ridges earning the name “Dragon Mountain.” Afternoon tea is served as the train climbs Majuba Hill, a site of military significance in the First Anglo-Boer War. Dinner follows in the elegant dining cars as you pass Glencoe, heart of the province’s coalfields.

Day 2NAMBITI GAME RESERVE & SPIONKOP

Wake up early to a hearty breakfast before embarking on a thrilling game drive through the Nambiti Reserve — a malaria-free sanctuary teeming with wildlife. Return for a late brunch before transferring to Spionkop Lodge for your choice of two excursions: a guided tour of the historic Battle of Spionkop site, or another adventurous game drive in the surrounding reserve. The evening brings another exquisite dinner aboard as you pass Chieveley, with its poignant Winston Churchill memorial.

Day 3ARDMORE CERAMICS & DURBAN ARRIVAL

After breakfast, the train descends into the lush Lions River Valley for a visit to the world-renowned Ardmore Ceramics Gallery. Here, Zulu heritage meets artistic mastery in vibrant clay creations. Lunch is enjoyed as the train winds through the spectacular Valley of a Thousand Hills. By mid-afternoon, the journey approaches its grand finale, rolling into Durban Station at approximately 4:00 pm. Upon arrival, you’ll disembark with treasured memories of South Africa’s landscapes, wildlife, and heritage, all experienced in unmatched Rovos Rail style.
